View Idea 3.0 is the latest version of Brightidea's Idea View. It comes filled with delightful features like different templates, new widgets (inline action items!), responsiveness for mobile viewing, and appears as a modal in various areas of the application. This is enabled for all new Initiatives built out from the Products Pillar.

Toggling
View Idea 3.0 can be toggled in two places:
- Initiatives (Site Setup > Beta)
- Action Items and Manage Pages (System Setup > Beta)
When enabled on an Initiative, the new Idea View will appear on the View Idea page for that Initiative.
It will also appear as a modal in the following places:

Configuration
View Idea 3.0 can be configured from a variety of areas:
- Page template
- Widgets
- Site Setup
Page Template
View Idea 3.0 has three different templates to support the types of Ideas you're collecting
- Small (no cover image) - supports basic Ideas without images
- Medium (small cover image) - supports category images
- Large (large cover image) - supports robust Ideas with images
To update your Initiatives template, click the gear icon in the bottom-left corner and select Template Selection
All templates share the left and right columns (which are widget-editable).
Note: Swapping templates will not change your widgets.
Widgets
The columns below the header hold various widgets to support your Initiative's use cases.
When the Widget Editor is enabled, the page will shift into an editable view.
Hovering over a widget allows you to move, configure, or remove the widget.
- Ordering - Allows you to drag and drop widgets to a desired location
- Add / Remove - Available widgets will appear in the panel on the left side of the page. When widgets are added to the page, they will no longer appear in the Available Widgets list. When widgets are removed from the page, they will reappear in the list of Available Widgets.

Title - Update the widget's title in the field
- Title Display - You can choose to hide the title altogether by unchecking the Title checkbox
Note: While the Widget Editor is ON, inline editing and other actions on the page may be disabled for the user making the edits.
View Idea 3.0 introduces the ability for widgets to be dragged above, in, or below the Ideas tab- This provides the option to make the Comments visible from all areas of the Idea View page.
Site Setup
- Design Tab
- The page will adhere to the colors and CSS set in the Design tab.
- Note: At this time, it is not recommended to make any customization or changes to CSS code on View Idea 3.0 pages as it has the potential to impact functionality.
- Label Editing

View Idea 3.0 Makeup
Title (Header Area)
The Idea Title appears in all headers and is editable for users that have appropriate permissions.
- Note: There is a 100-character maximum limit for Idea Titles.
Idea Cover Image (Header Area)
If Medium or Large templates are selected, an Idea image will appear in the header. Clicking the default image will toggle the Attachments Viewer to choose a new file.

- Cover images can be updated inline by hovering on the idea image, within the Attachments area, or in the Image Viewer overlay.

- Note: Deleting the Cover image in the Attachments widget will remove it from the Idea entirely. In this event, the Header will revert to displaying the Initiative default image.
Voting (Header Area)
We have new voting features in View Idea 3.0!

View Votes Modal - Next to the voting buttons, Voters will now appear in a View Votes modal for that Idea.
- The option to toggle votes is found in Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas

Single Promote button - When enabled, an all-purpose button for icon/label/vote score replaces the old voting button.
- This option is found as a sub-option for View Idea 3.0 in Site Setup > Beta

Chips Voting
When Chips Voting is enabled, a Chips button appears on the Idea. Within Chips Voting, you can:
- View the Idea's Investors
- Add, edit, or remove Chips
- Allocate Chips to other Ideas or update them in bulk

Submitter/Team (Header Area)
Displays the Submitter name, Submission Team name, or Anonymous depending on user selection.
In addition, a Team widget can be added to the side panel to display Team Members in a stacked list.
Merged Ideas (Header Area)
If an Idea has been merged with one or more other Ideas, the merged group of Ideas will appear as tabs within the Parent Idea.
- Note: Some features on Child Ideas are disabled.

Visibility (Header Area)
Admins can toggle an Idea as Hidden through the Actions dropdown. If an Idea is Hidden, an indicator will appear above the Header. To toggle an Idea as Visible, select Toggle to Visible in the indicator area or from the Actions dropdown.
- Note: Hidden Ideas are visible only to Admins and the Idea's Submitter.
Action Buttons
Actions Dropdown
The Actions dropdown is located in the top-right corner of each View Idea page. This menu lists multiple actions that may be taken for an Idea:
- Copy Link - Copies the Idea's URL to your native clipboard
- Print - Opens a new window displaying the Idea in a print-friendly format

Report Abuse - All users can Report an Idea. Reports are delivered to Admins as via email.
- Text in the Report Abuse modal is customizable and can be updated under Site Setup > Labels
- Hide/Show Idea - Toggles an Idea's visibility to Hidden or Visible

Delete - Deletes the Idea permanently.
- Note: Only Admins can toggle visibility or delete an Idea.
Subscribe
When enabled, the Subscribe button will appear next to the Actions dropdown in the top-right corner of the View Idea page. Subscribed users will receive notifications on various Idea activities such as new Comments and Status updates.
- Enable or disable Category and Idea Subscription under Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas to toggle the button on or off
- Enabling Admin Subscription Management under Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas will allow Admins to manually add or remove Subscribers when selecting the Subscribe button on the page
Add to Favorites
When enabled, a Favorite button will appear next to the Actions dropdown in the top-right corner of the View Idea page. Marking an Idea as a Favorite makes it easy to filter while searching through the Idea Boards and on the User Homepage.
- Enable or disable My Favorites under Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas to toggle the button on or off
Description
Displays the Description content of the Idea.
Note: Images uploaded to the Description will be added as Attachments in the Attachments widget.
Attachments
Any files uploaded to the Idea will appear in the Attachments area.
- Clicking an Attachment will open the File Viewer.
- Submitters and Admins can add or remove attachments.
- Videos attachments can be set to auto-embed within the main Description area for in-view play.
You can also set an Attachment as the Idea Cover image.
- Note: Private attachments are marked with a Private icon. Private images cannot be set as a Cover image.

Additional Questions & Development Fields
Additional Questions and Development Fields are displayed in a single widget on the View page in the same order and visibility as the Submission Form.

- Development Fields can be displayed in a separate tab by enabling the Development tab under Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas
- Development tab text is customizable under Site Setup > Labels
- Fields can be made editable directly from View Idea 3.0 by enabling Editable development fields under Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas. Admins will always have edit capabilities.
Action Items
Brightidea's View Idea 3.0 also introduces the Action Items widget. The widget is visible to Evaluators assigned to the Idea. The widget supports the following Action Item types:
- Review (inline)
- Single Scale (inline)
- Scorecard (inline)
- Development (redirects Evaluator to the Action Item)
- Find Owner (redirects Evaluator to the Action Item)
- Judging (redirects Evaluator to the Action Item)
When an Evaluator is assigned to a step that allows Idea editing, the Evaluator will be able to edit the Idea directly from the page.
Submitted Date
Displays the date the Idea was submitted. The date format is configured under Site Setup > Site > General Settings. To learn more about Date Formatting, check out this support article.
Owner
Displays the Owner of the Idea.
- Note: The widget will not be visible to end users when an Owner is not assigned.
Status
Displays the status of the Idea.
- If a Description is configured for statuses under Site Setup > Ideas > Setup, it will display as a hover tooltip.
- Enabling Idea Submitter can change status will allow the Submitter and Team Members to update the status of the Idea.
Category
Displays the Category of the Idea.
- Enable and disable Submission Categories under Site Setup > Ideas > Categories
- Note: More than one Category must be configured in order for the widget to display on the page
If Category Subscription is enabled under Site Setup > Ideas, users can hover over a Category and subscribe to that specific Category. Subscribers will receive notifications informing them of activity within that specific category.
Tags / Admin Tags
Displays Tags and Admin Tags applied to the Idea

Stats

Vote Score - The total Promote score value of an Idea. This is not the total vote count.
- It will not display if votes are off and no votes have been cast.
- It will not display if Chips voting is enabled.

Votes - The total number of votes cast for an Idea, combining both promoted and demoted together.
- It will not display if votes are off and no votes have been cast.
- It will not display if Chips voting is enabled.

Chips - total number of voting Chips given to an Idea
- It will not display if voting is disabled and no votes have been cast.
- This will not display if Simple voting is enabled.
- Comments - The number of Comments on an Idea. This value will change based on the visibility settings for Comments and individual User permissions.

Favorites - Represents the number of users that added the Idea to their Favorites
- This will only display if My Favorites is enabled under Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas

Unique Views - The total number of unique views an Idea has received.
- This will display when Show view count is enabled under Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas
- Admin can allow the display of unique viewers within a modal by enabling Display Idea Viewers under Site Setup > Beta

Total Views - The total number of views an Idea has received, including repeat views from the same users.
- This value will display if Show View Count is enabled under Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas
Progress
The progress widget displays the current Stage and/or Step.

Stage - Displays the current Stage of the Idea, including a progression visual

Step - Displays the current Step within the current Stage
This information will appear based on whether or not the options for Pipeline Stage in Idea Details Widget and/or Pipeline Step in Idea Details Widget are enabled under Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas. Admin can configure the feature in the Widget Editor.
Linked Ideas
Brightidea allows for different Ideas to be linked together.
- Note: Only Admins can add or remove Linked Ideas.
- Note: Only Ideas within the same Initiative may be linked. Ideas cannot be linked across Initiatives.
Linked Whiteboard
Displays a dedicated Whiteboard that is linked to the idea.
- When the Whiteboard is enabled, its thumbnail, title, and last edited time are displayed. The thumbnail is not visible to users who do not have permission to access the Whiteboard.
- A Whiteboard can be toggled only by the Idea Submitter, Idea Owner, Team Member, or Admin.

Note: This widget requires both View Idea 3.0 to be enabled in Site Setup and Whiteboard be enabled at the System level. Whiteboard is enabled by default unless explicitly disabled.

Comments
By default, the Comments widget is displayed at the bottom of the View Idea page. It can be easily relocated by dragging and dropping.

Find Teammates
Hackathon customers especially appreciate this one- The Find Teammates feature allows users to search for participants within the registered Hackathon. To learn more, check out this support article.
Expertise
The Expertise feature is a main attraction for Hackathon and Gig customers- It allows the required Expertise for the Project or Gig to be visible on the Idea.

GitHub Link
Admins can add a URL-based field to capture GitHub links- This is specifically useful for our Hackathon app.
Tabs
The visibility of the tabs in the left panel of View Idea 3.0 is based on Initiative settings and User permissions.
Ideas Tab
- The Ideas tab is always visible and can display widgets within the tab.
- Note: Widgets can also be placed above and below tabs!
- Tab text/labels pull from the Submission name Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas
Development Tab
When enabled, Development Fields are displayed in a dedicated Development tab.
- The tab is toggled as a sub-option to View idea 3.0
- Field visibility is based on settings in the submission form.
- Note: Only users with permission to view Development Fields will see the Development tab. If a user lacks sufficient permission, the tab will not be displayed.
- An attachment field can be added within the Development tab.
- Tab text/label is customizable under Site Setup > Site > Labels

History Tab
The History tab displays the timeline of events and actions that have taken place within an Idea.
History tab permissions are managed under Site Setup > Ideas > History

Evaluations
The Evaluations tab displays the results of a Step's Action Items. Results and visibility depend on the configuration of the Step. Note: There are no changes to this feature between Idea View 2.0 and 3.0.
Business Impact
The Business Impact tab is a dedicated area for tracking projections and outcomes. The same data is also found in the Idea's associated Team Workspace.
When enabled under Site Setup > Beta > Business Impact, the tab is visible to Admins, Moderators, and Analysts. Submitters can also be included by enabling Submitter Access to Business Impact Tab under Site Setup > Ideas > Ideas

Known Gaps between View Idea 2.0 and View Idea 3.0
As View Idea 3.0 evolves, some features that were available in View Idea 2.0 have changed. Please use the alternatives below.
- Additional Info Tab
- Recommend utilizing Admin fields or Development fields in the Submission Form
- Edit Merged (Parent / Child) Ideas
- Use List View instead
- Extra Question Settings
- Allow all users to see extra questions (Only works with Post Idea 1.0/View Idea 2.0)
- Hide extra questions from the Submitter (Only works with Post Idea 1.0/View Idea 2.0)
- Private Attachments
- Utilize Development fields if uploading during Evaluation
- Status Change Reason

Customizations
We highly recommend refraining from customizations or custom CSS code for the Idea View 3.0 page. If you do choose to implement any customizations, there are areas of the system where those customizations will not propagate, including:
- Steps View (modal)
- List View (modal)
- Whiteboard (modal)
