Brightidea Product Release Notes – August 8th 2012


In the past two weeks we have made several enhancements and bug fixes. These changes will take effect on Wednesday, August 8th, 2012, 8:30PM EST.

Please note that some of these features are beta options that must be turned on by your Brightidea representative. We have thoroughly tested these new enhancements and fixes to ensure high quality before allowing them into production. If you notice any disruptions, please let us know and we will take fast, appropriate action. Thank you!

Release Focus

Rules Engine Updates (BETA)

We have made a number of enhancements to the Rules Engine, including adding a rich text editor for email templates, new conditions and new triggers. The most significant are outlined below; these updates and a complete list of features for the Rules Engine can be read here.

Added Rich Text Editor to Rule Editor

  • Rich text editor has been added to the rules editor page in the actions section

New Email Recipients for Notification

  • The following users have been added as recipients for email notifications in the rules action section:
    • WebStorm Administrator(s)
    • Idea Submitter(s)
    • System Administrator(s)

New Triggers

    • Days in current status
      • Triggers action when an idea has spent a specific number of days in a status
    • Days since idea submission
      • Triggers action after a specified number of days since idea submission

New Conditions

  • Days in current status
    • Condition for an idea that has spent a specific number of days in a status
  • Days since idea submission
    • Condition for an idea after a specified number of days since idea submission

  Custom Proposal Statuses (BETA)

Proposals in Switchboard may now be given custom statuses within the system. A complete description of features for Custom Proposal Statuses can be read here.

  • The four existing system statuses—Active, Archived, Incubate and On Hold—may be renamed
    • NOTE: These system statuses may not be deleted or disabled
  • These custom statuses must always be tied to system statuses—the existing statuses in the Switchboard

  • All statuses may be reordered by drag and drop; this order is reflected in the status selection list from the Switchboard proposals grid, batch/collection round menu, and from within a proposal

Enhanced Switchboard Security (BETA)

This feature enables a security check to ensure that the user has proper permissions to view Switchboard proposals lists, batches/collections, proposals and scorecards

  • System Admins may view all areas of the suite
  • Permissions are based on user role (e.g. System Admin, Batch Admin, etc.) or specific access to a page (e.g. user is a Proposal Owner or Team Member, has been assigned a scorecard, etc.)
  • Users who attempt to access areas of Switchboard where they do not have permissions will land on an error page stating they are not allowed to view the page

Pipeline Enhancements

We have made further UI and functional enhancements to Pipeline to improve the overall user experience. The most significant changes have been detailed below, with further changes listed in the Additional Enhancements section.

New Project Navigation

  • Complete project navigation is available in the right-hand section of the project landing page
    • All pages of the project are now accessible through the right-hand navigation

    • Related proposals may now be added directly from the project landing page

Updated Project To Do Page

  • Project To Dos may now be Unassigned
    • When unassigned, no email notification sent
    • To Dos may be reassigned by selecting edit from the To Do page
  • Revised to do comments section
    • Latest comments now appear at the top of the thread
    • To Do comments may now contain attachments

  • (BETA) Attachments may now be added to To Dos
    • Multiple attachments may be added
    • To Do attachments are not included in the Project Documents page

Additional Enhancements

The following additional enhancements have been made throughout the Brightidea platform. For your convenience, they have been categorized by product.

  • Updated the Label Import/Export (BETA) feature for improved usability and consistency
    • Exports now only include the key, value, and new_value columns
    • Exports now eliminate duplicates and are automatically ordered by the key column
  • When Enterprise profiles are disabled, WebStorm profile hoverover links to Enterprise profile page are removed

  • Added new report for WebStorm User Votes. This report contains the following information:
    • Screen Name
    • Email Address
    • Idea Title
    • Idea Code
    • Promote Votes/Demote Votes/Chips (when enabled)
    • Vote Reason when enabled (BETA)
    • NOTE: Only ideas that have been voted on will be included; if a user has voted on multiple ideas, each vote is on its own row
  • Idea tags now support foreign characters
  • Mini idea widget now sorts by votes correctly
  • Fixed an issue with Vote Reason (BETA) in which Promote Reason would be enabled with Demote Reason
  • Fixed an issue in which idea submission questions could not be deleted
  • Fixed an issue with idea description rich text editor adding extra line breaks
  • After merging two or more ideas, users may no longer comment on child ideas
  • When merging ideas with chip votes, the parent chips vote total now accounts for child idea chip votes

  • Updated a number of WebStorm Admin popups to the new UI standard
  • WebStorm Admin collection names are now limited to 50 characters
  • After merging ideas, child ideas are no longer included in the WSA grid ideas count
  • Fixed an issue with rules engine (BETA) notification email dynamic fields not appearing correctly
  • Fixed an issue with rules engine (BETA) rules editor not appearing correctly in IE7/8

  • When creating a project from a proposal, the project name and description are automatically pre-populated with the proposal name and description
  • Sent action items page now has right-click menu to cancel action items
  • Canceling an action item past its due date no longer causes error
  • Sent action items page now shows the completed date for action items
  • Non-admin proposal team members may now upload attachments to proposals
  • Smart reminder notifications (BETA) now respect the custom contact email address
  • Fixed an issue in which proposal fields were shown out of order. They now appear in the order specified in the proposal template editor
  • Fixed issue with images uploaded in rich-text editor (BETA) not appearing when proposal saved

  • Updated a number of Pipeline popups to the new UI standard
  • Project grid export from My Projects view (BETA) now only includes projects that the user is the owner or team member of
  • Project ID code now searchable in Pipeline project grid search
  • Pipeline portfolio names are now limited to 50 characters
  • Project name may now be edited directly from the project Info page
  • Project documents library may now have more than 20 attachments
  • Image attachments for project wall comments now work in IE7/8
