Enabling Promote/Demote Reasons

Enable Promote Reason and Enable Demote Reason are features that allow Admins to gather more insight into the "why" behind their users' positive and negative votes.

To Get Started:

  • These options can be toggled under Site Setup > Ideas > Voting
  • Admins can opt to enable just one Reason or both

  • When enabled, users will have the opportunity to input a reason why they are promoting or demoting an Idea.

  • The user can then select Promote/Demote to submit their reason and vote.
  • Alternatively, selecting Cancel will close the window without adding a vote.

Post-Voting

  • After a user's vote is submitted, their stated reason is displayed in the Votes tab of the Idea within the Vote history:

  • If users attempt to vote without inputting a reason, the box around the reason field will turn red:

Important things to Note:

  • The promote/demote reasons are only shown in the individual Ideas at this time.
  • There is a 250-character limit for reason entries.
  • This feature is only available on the Initiative level.
  • Reason responses are visible to all users.
  • If an Idea is hidden, the reasons will also be hidden.
  • If Idea History or Vote Count is hidden, the reasons will also be hidden.
  • Removing a vote or voting in the opposite direction will remove the associated vote reason. This cannot be reverted.

    2 Questions:

Once enabled, where does this option appear?

Does this work with Chip voting?

    Hi Kuhan,

Once enabled, the voting reason box will appear on voting and demoting. There is no WebStorm option to enable/disable it only a beta option that Brightidea Employees can enable.

Currently, it does not work with chip voting.

    Thank you,

    1. You give the example for promoting, but not demoting. I presume it's the same, but it shouldn't be left up to me.
    2. If you disable demote voting, does it hide the demote column?
