Jira Data Center Integration

We are excited to offer the ability to create Jira issues directly from Brightidea submissions! This allows you to transfer ideas for project management and implementation or link ideas to existing issues for improved cross-system tracking. Explore the guide below to get started.

Important Notes:

  1. This feature needs to be enabled by your Customer Success Manager, please reach out to turn this on for your affiliate.
  2. Admin access is required in both Brightidea and Jira to complete the initial system setup.
  3. Only one Jira Data Center can be connected per affiliate. Connecting multiple Data Centers to a single affiliate is not supported.
  4. This KBA is relevant to Jira's Data Center instance. For information on the Jira Cloud Integration, please refer to this support article.

Enablement within Brightidea

After your CSM has enabled Jira Data Center Integration within your Brightidea, you can proceed with the setup process by following the steps below:

  • Navigate to a specific Initiative within the system that you would like to integrate.
    •  Note: The Initiative must have View Idea 3 enabled
  •  Under Site Setup > Ideas > Integrations

    • Enable Jira Integration for This Activity- Allow admins to create and link Jira issues from List and Steps view within this Initiative. Enabling this setting will make a Jira Issues widget available for optional placement on View Idea 3. The widget must be positioned manually and will then show a list of linked Jira issues along with commands to create new issues and additional links.
    • End-user Access to Jira Integration- By default, the Jira integration widget is visible only to Admin roles. Enabling this option allows end-users to view and/or interact with the widget. To use the full capabilities, users will need to authorize their personal Jira account.
      • Note: This setting enables end users to potentially interact with the widget. Whether or not they can is based on individual user permissions and roles. All end users will be able to view the widget for Submissions to which they have access. Permission to both view and edit a Submission is required to interact with the widget.
  • Once the changes under Site Setup are saved, navigate to an Idea within that Initiative.
  • Enable the Widget Editor, then add the Jira widget to the desired location on the Idea page.

  • End-users who can interact with the widget in Brightidea will need permission within Jira/Atlassian to view the ticket in Jira when they click the Jira link in Brightidea.
