Within Brightidea, we allow our customers to fully customize their systems—even choosing the terminology and text they want. Administrators are offered various options for extensive label customization in all parts of Brightidea. Delve into the options below to get started on editing labels.
Option 1 - Label Edit via the UI
- Label Editor mode allows Admins to customize the editable labels on their Site.
- To enable Label Edit mode, select the gear menu in the bottom left of the Site and toggle the option for Label Editor
- Hover over the orange highlighted text to change the desired label.
- Enter the new text and select Save to update it.
- When finished, select the gear menu in the bottom left of the Site and toggle the Label Editor to disable.
Option 2 - Label Edit via System / Site Setup
- Admins can navigate to either System Setup > Site > Labels or Site Setup > Site > Labels, depending on the level to update.
- Select Enable Label Edit
- The page will refresh and allow the Administrator to edit labels on the corresponding level (System or Site)
- To edit, hover over the highlighted orange label
- Enter the label to overwrite and select Save
- Once finished editing all labels, select Disable Label Edit
Option 3 - Label Export & Import
With the Import/Export Labels feature, Admins can export and re-import existing system labels or export from their Brightidea system and import elsewhere. This is particularly useful for customers using other languages and key terminology for Brightidea elements.
- To export a file containing the existing labels, navigate to either System Setup > Site > Labels or Site Setup > Site > Labels, depending on the level to update.
- Scroll down and select Export Labels to export the current System or Site labels .xls file.
- Labels are exported in Excel format with foreign character support (UTF-8) and contain the following information:
- key: defines the label type (e.g., LBL_ACTIONS_WELCOME_TO_SCORECARDING)
- value: defines the current name of the label (e.g., Welcome to scorecarding.)
- new_value: This column is for updating labels. Values entered here will overwrite the existing system labels upon successful import.
- Admins can then import the edited list by selecting Import Labels
- Once imported, the system will display a success message:
- All pre-existing labels will be overwritten with those defined in the uploaded spreadsheet.
Important Note:
- Not all labels within Brightidea can be edited/customized/translated at this time.
- Items that are not highlighted in yellow when Label Edit mode is enabled cannot be changed.
- Note: To avoid potential problems, only use alphanumeric characters when making label changes.
- Label editing accepts foreign characters, i.e.- characters unique to Portuguese, Russian, etc
- Special non-text characters- such as single quotes- can cause issues and break functionality.
- If you are attempting to perform a complete translation to another language for your Brightidea, please be aware that some terms will not change.
- Alternatively, Google translation services can translate a site on the user's side via a browser extension.
Great! Will this feature work across different Webstorms? I mean, since there are 2910 terms, it would be very helpful to upload the same spreadsheet to multiple Webstorms. What do you think about that?
Hello,
Yes, this will work for all WebStorm in your system (the option is on the Enterprise level).
Thank You,
Brightidea Support.
Awesome! :)
The export to Excel option will make it easier for doing translations!
Are the labels able to be changed to different languages based on the community level? For example, a client wants the Indian community, which has 4 webstorms, to have labels in their native language and the Chinese Community should have labels in their native language....
Hi Renee -
Community level is not yet accommodated... Only Enterprise and WebStorm at this time.
Best,
Anthony
It's not spelled out that even when you change a label in the Enterprise Setup, it does NOT cascade to your webstorms. You need to change the label in each webstorm. So what is the purpose of allowing label edits in the Enterprise setup?
Hi Kathy,
Labels in Enterprise setup allow you to change labels at the Enterprise level and WebStorm labels allow you to change labels at the WebStorm level. This way you have control of all Enterprise and WebStorm pages.
Thank you,
