Transitioning from Enterprise to Communities

Moving from an Enterprise to a Community setup is relatively seamless. However, there are some variables to consider to avoid any complications/issues. We'll delve more into this below:

Enterprise Setup is different than Community Setup

    • The URL:
      • Community Setup Sample URL:  (yourcompany.brightidea.com/ct/c_admin_pool_options.bix?level_id={___}&a=OD____)
      • Enterprise Setup Sample URL: (yourcompany.brightidea.com/ct/c_admin_options.bix?a=OD____)
    • Community Setup has fewer subtabs than Enterprise, as certain features are unavailable in Communities.
    • Under Community Setup, Admins can configure:
      • Dynamic Navigation
      • Contact Email
      • Banner/Footer/Custom CSS for your community
      • Manage group(s) for users in your community
      • Create new accounts for users
      • Block certain user(s) in your community
      • Create new WebStorm(s) for your community
      • Manage your respective WebStorm(s) in your community
      • Note: Community Admins inherit Admin- as opposed to ALL or Evaluator- permissions for Navigation.

Community Administrator

  • A Community Administrator is the designated Administrator for a Community.  They can manage all setup aspects within their Community but cannot access the full System Setup to change elements globally.
    • Note: A System Admin who is also a Community Admin will see no interference.  They will always have access to all areas of System Setup.
  • An Initiative/Pipeline Admin can also be a Community Admin, which enables them to access the Community Setup for their respective Initiatives
  • To assign Community Administrators, navigate to Community Setup > Users > Administrators

Updating your Respective Communities & Sub-Communities

  • Within Community Setup, Admins can delegate which Initiatives they wish to include in their communities and sub-communities.  Simply check the desired Initiatives under the respective Community and select Update Community
  • The Admin can also update the title of the Community by clicking into the title field and making the change, then selecting Update Community Screenshot 2024-08-02 at 4.06.19 PM.png

Relationship to the underlying Initiatives

  • All Community Initiative landing pages will show all respective statistics and activity from the underlying Initiatives.
  • Note: If the Community Admin is not also the respective Initiative/Pipeline Administrator for an Initiative in their Community, they cannot edit that Initiative's setup.

Moving from System Administrator to Community Administrator

  • When transitioning from System Admin to Community Admin, there are some features that will no longer be accessible, including:
    • Community Admins can inherit Batch Admin, which will give them further access to Initiative Admin & Pipeline
    • Group Import
    • User Import
    • Email template setup
    • Idea Import
    • Full access to Initiative / Pipeline
    • Idea & User Reports
    • Copy Initiative
  • Note: All of the features above will remain available under System Setup
  • Consult your designated System Administrator if you wish to perform any of these actions within Brightidea.

Can I limit/allow access to a community only for certain users?

    Hi Lica,

Community access can't be limited to certain users, only the WebStorms inside the communities can be restricted to user groups.

    Thank you,
